It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our founder, Joseph (“Joe”) Stanley Pieciak Jr., who died peacefully on April 3, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Joe founded Pieciak & Company in 1983 and built it into one of Southern Vermont’s most respected accounting firms. He led with unwavering integrity and a steadfast commitment to doing things the right way—values that became the foundation of our organization. More than a leader, Joe was a mentor, trusted advisor, and friend to generations of clients and colleagues. His dedication to personal service, honesty, and excellence earned the trust and respect of all who knew him.

Joe also cared deeply about Brattleboro and served the community he loved for more than five decades, leaving a lasting mark through both his professional work and his personal relationships.

While Joe will be deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the relationships he built, the values he instilled, and the standard of excellence he set. We remain committed to honoring his example by continuing to provide the thoughtful, reliable, and personal service that defined his approach.

The firm is a merged organization of Downey, Sweeney, Fitzgerald & Co., P.C. of Springfield, Massachusetts, and Pieciak & Company, P.C., with offices in Brattleboro, Vermont, and South Hadley, Massachusetts. Downey, Sweeney, Fitzgerald & Co., P.C. traces its origins to 1950, while Pieciak & Company, P.C. was established in 1983 as the successor to an accounting practice dating back to 1957.

Meet Travis, our accomplished partner with an extensive background spanning over two decades in the realms of accounting and taxation. Leveraging his wealth of experience, Travis delivers unparalleled accounting and tax services tailored to the unique needs of individuals and closely held companies, encompassing corporations, partnerships, and limited liability companies across diverse industries.

 

Travis holds a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration with a specialization in accounting from American International College, underscoring his commitment to academic excellence. His expertise, combined with a dedication to precision, ensures that clients receive top-tier financial solutions that align seamlessly with their goals. Shareholder, Director of Tax Services

Gary is a shareholder of the firm, and is the Director of Tax Services for the firm.  Additionally, Gary serves as the Office Managing Partner for the firm’s South Hadley office.  Gary has been in public practice since 1988, and is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  He has an undergraduate degree in Accounting from Western New England University and a master’s degree in Taxation from Bentley University.

Gary’s areas of practice include tax planning, tax compliance for corporations, pass-through entities, and high-net-worth individuals, mergers and acquisitions, choice of entity for new businesses, representation before the Internal Revenue Service.

Gary is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants, and he currently serves on the Board of Directors of Westfield Bank, and is the Chairperson of their Audit Committee.

Vermont Individual

Tax Manager 

Since joining our firm in 2006, Jessica has served as our dedicated Tax Manager, focusing on delivering exceptional individual tax services. Her expertise lies in navigating the complexities of taxation to ensure our clients receive personalized and effective financial solutions.

 

Jessica earned her Bachelor of Science in business administration from Fitchburg State University, equipping her with a solid foundation for addressing the unique needs of our clients. As our Tax Manager, she plays a pivotal role in leading our tax services team with precision and expertise.

 

Her commitment to staying abreast of the latest tax regulations and her passion for delivering client-centric services make her an invaluable asset to our team. With years of experience and a comprehensive understanding of individual tax matters, Jessica is ready to guide you through the intricacies of your financial landscape. Trust her to optimize your tax strategy and help you achieve your financial goals.

Audit and Assurance Manager

Chad is our Audit and Assurance Manager with over eight years of public accounting experience and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Massachusetts.  Since joining our team in 2019, Chad has been dedicated to providing a variety of audit and assurance services, with expertise in nonprofit entities, HUD regulated properties, single audits in compliance with 2 CFR Part 200, audits in compliance with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards “yellow book”, and homeowners associations.  His approach to managing complex audits has made him an integral part of our team.

Chad also has proficiency in taxation and has provided federal and state tax advice to businesses and individuals in a number of different industries. 

Chad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Western New England University and a Master of Science degree in Accounting from Westfield State University.  He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA).

Payroll Service Manager

Jamie, an integral member of our team since 2015, specializes in delivering comprehensive payroll services to local clients and businesses. Armed with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Castleton State College, Jamie brings a unique perspective to her role.

Her dedication to excellence is exemplified by her tenure as a payroll manager since 2019, showcasing a commitment to precision and professionalism in managing financial processes. With a wealth of expertise, Jamie plays a crucial role in ensuring our clients' payroll needs are met with accuracy and efficiency.
